New Year, New Blog!!

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."
-C.S. Lewis

For the last year and a half, I have used this blog to show you pictures from recent sessions, tell you stories about life, and try and give you an inside scoop on building my photography business. With the New Year, I have decided to make the switch to a blog that is cohesive with my WEBSITE. I have LOVED working with PHOTOBIZ in creating my website last summer, and I am so glad that they have released a new blog feature. They make my life SO MUCH EASIER! I could give them a gold star, kiss, and high five. At the SAME.TIME.

I love the different pages and features on my new blog, from the galleries to the contact form! People will be able to send me an e-mail from the blog, and also everyone will be able to comment without a hassle! That is one thing that people have requested, because sometimes commenting on these posts has been difficult.

Anyway, change is good. Sometimes a little scary, but SO worth it. So here I go, diving in to a new blog hoping that the change brings big changes for my little business this year! Thank you for staying connected.

You can visit the new blog HERE!!!

Here is a little preview...Isn't she pretty?!?!

Word to the Wise : Fill the Frame

"I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see."
-John Burroughs

I LOVE my clients. I love the mama's that I get to work with and I LOVE seeing pictures of the families on Facebook from Christmas, birthday parties, and everyday life. Honestly, I wish I could just follow all of my clients around for weeks and take pictures for them, and we can laugh and talk. Because my clients become my friends.

When I was first starting out, I noticed that some of my clients even had nicer cameras than me. THAT was awkward. But when they noticed, they would ask me, "How come my pictures don't look like yours?" Which was KIND OF a compliment...I think. So I thought I would maybe write some of my favorite "Tips & Tricks" that I have learned so that you are able to have great pictures too!!!

Let's get real. I am NOT a landscape photographer. I could not rock out photographing a mountain to save my life. Trees and Mountains and Valleys do NOT make me excited to wake up in the morning. Flowers, that's a different story...Mostly because bouquets of flowers involves weddings. AND I LOVE weddings. So...All that to say, I am a PEOPLE photographer. I LOVE people. Like if kissing people on the forehead was socially acceptable, I would walk around the grocery store bestowing forehead kisses on almost everyone. (Except for the creepsters.)

When photographing people, I love to get REAL close. Up in their "grill" so that the picture doesn't feel like they are miles away and we are shouting to have a conversation. I like pictures that I am close enough to whisper. Except for not, because whispering freaks me out. So this is my FIRST tip for all of you with a camera, an iPhone, or a mental picture photo album...

FILL THE FRAME

The Frame = The Picture

When you are close to your "subject" it allows you to have conversation with them and hopefully get genuine reactions such as laughing or smiling. And it leaves out extra space that can be distracting or unnecessary.

Get CLOSE! Let me show you some examples.

These last two are Mr. Dawson Attwood. He has grown SO much! (The bottom picture was taken on my iPhone.)

A Look Back...

"You can look at a picture for a week and never think of it again. You can also look at a picture for a second and think of it all your life."
-Joan Miro

2011 was my first full year of business, and it was a full one. I cannot believe that in just 1 year, so much can change!

In 2011, I launched a brand new website, invested in a new camera, had a logo and business cards designed, learned more and more about photography, became more confident posing clients, shot my first few weddings, and fell more in love with what I am doing. And that's just SOME of what happened.

But those are not as memorable as the people that I met this past year. I have been blessed with wonderful clients who I love to spend time with, and kiddos who I wish could come hang out with me forever. We could go on ice cream dates daily.

Thank you friends and family for believing in me and for talking to your friends about me! I can honestly say that my clients have all been referred to me by word of mouth! Also, thank you lovely clients for trusting me to take pictures of the important moments in your lives. It is an honor that you would call me, and even more of an honor when I see your photos in your homes, on your Facebook, or when you call me for a second session.

2012 is already getting busy, I am overwhelmed by the faithfulness of God in my life to bring things I would have never thought possible. I cannot even wait to post some more sessions that I shot in December and the ones I have coming up in January!

So, here's to a look back. A look back to some of my favorite images from 2011 and to the people who added joy to my life.

Life is worth remembering.
